| | Drink to be Healthy! This year make a resolution to drink more water. Because the more you drink, the better you look. Need more motivation? Check out our top ten tips to help you hydrate: Tip#1: Keep water flowing year round – even now during the cold months. When it’s cold outside, your body needs extra energy to maintain the right temperature. Drinking water can provide that energy and help keep you warm. Tip#2: Make it convenient. Keep a bottle on your desk and a few backups in the fridge. That way you can sip while you’re working and grab a bottle on the way to meetings. Tip#3: Start and end your day with water. Your body loses water while you sleep, so drink a glass of water before going to bed and again when you wake up. Tip#4: Don’t substitute caffeinated of alcoholic beverages for water. Have a glass of water with each caffeinated or alcoholic beverage. Tip#5: Have a bottle of water every hour on the hour while you’re at work. At the end of the day, you’ll easily meet your water quota. Tip#6: Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink water. By the time you feel thirsty, you have probably already lost one or more cups of your total body water. Tip#7: Drink water on the go. Carry a bottle of water when you commute to work or run errands. Tip#8: Drink it ice cold. Water has to be heated before your body can use it. That takes energy – or calories. Drinking a half-gallon a day could help you burn 50 to 100 calories! Tip#9: Water consumption plays a vital role in regulation your body temperature at 98.6 degrees. Drinking water helps deliver nutrients and oxygen to cells, removes wastes, cushions joints, and protects organs and tissues. Tip#10: Develop good drinking habits now. Your “thirst signals” decline with age, so it’s important to develop the habit of drinking more water even when you’re not thirsty. |
